How to store your pure organic essential oils
Essential oils are perfect for your wellness journey. Learning the dos and don’ts of storing them is just one important way to protect your wellness and their benefits.
-
Can you keep essential oils in the fridge?
We do think this is a great way to store your oils. It isn’t so much the lower temperature that matters—oils do not need to be kept that cold—but the consistent climate. Your fridge stays the same temperature day and night, which helps preserve the oil.
-
Can essential oils be stored in plastic bottles?
Essential oils are incredibly potent, which means that many oils will dissolve plastic. For this reason, we always keep our oils in glass bottles. Keep this in mind when you make your magic blends!
-
Do essential oils need dark bottles?
BCALM pure organic essential oils come in black glass bottles. That’s to protect them from light that can alter their delicate composition. We recommend always storing essential oils in dark bottles to preserve their quality. -
Can essential oil evaporate in direct sunlight?
Yes it can! We're not sure on the evaporation time on a single bottle of oil, but know for sure it will evaporate if left in direct sunlight. Essential oils will migrate or oxidise over time. Some of the lighter molecules may evaporate out, thus slightly changing the original ratios of components in the oil. It can still be used after this occurs.
-
How long are the shelf life of the oils when they are opened? for how many months or years can we use them?
Essential oils do not expire, provided they are stored properly in a dark-glass bottle, upright and tightly sealed, out of sunlight, and in cool temperatures.
