Hair Nourishment
How to Get Started
Gather your natural ingredients before you begin — your chosen carrier oils, essential oils, and hydrosol mists. For a simple, nourishing hair treatment, you’ll need 30ml of sweet almond oil, 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 3 drops of lavender, and 2 drops of frankincense. Blend in a glass bowl and transfer to a dark glass bottle to protect the oils from light and oxidation.
Keep a dedicated notebook or digital record of your formulations — this helps you refine your recipes and track which blends your hair loves most.
Start small, mix mindfully, and take time to enjoy the ritual — your hair (and mind) will thank you.
Always perform a patch test 24 hours before applying any DIY formula to your face. Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to skin. Pregnant women and children should consult healthcare providers before use. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
Spritz your hair and scalp with a soothing hydrosol mist such as lavender to lightly hydrate and prepare the hair for treatment. Gently massage your oil mask into the scalp and through the mid-lengths and ends, focusing on any dry or damaged areas.
Wrap your hair in a warm towel and let the oils absorb for around 20 minutes. The gentle heat helps the oils penetrate more deeply, nourishing both scalp and strands.
Rinse thoroughly, then shampoo and condition as usual. For an extra touch of calm, finish with a final spritz of lavender hydrosol before drying to restore moisture and leave a subtle, relaxing aroma.

DIY Haircare FAQ
Most DIY haircare formulas last 3-6 months when stored properly in dark glass bottles away from heat and direct sunlight. Essential oils naturally preserve formulas, but adding a natural preservative extends shelf life (witch hazel). Always label with creation date and discard if you notice changes in colour, scent, or consistency. Refrigeration can extend longevity for water-based formulas.
Yes, but start with lower essential oil concentrations and always patch test first. Dilute oils more generously in carrier oils and introduce one new ingredient at a time. If you have conditions like psoriasis, consult a dermatologist before use. Our tutorials include sensitivity modifications for each formula.
Purchase therapeutic-grade essential oils from certified suppliers with third-party testing. Carrier oils should be cold-pressed and organic. We recommend B Calm oils that provide detailed sourcing information and purity certifications for maximum quality and safety. email hello@bcalm.co.uk for more information.
