Daily Essential Oil Rituals for Stress Relief, Better Sleep & Glowing Skin | B Calm
My Daily Calm Rituals for Stress, Sleep & Skin Wellness
As a clinical aromatherapist, mum, business owner and someone who has personally experienced burnout, migraines and stress-related skin flare-ups, I know how overwhelming wellness can sometimes feel.
That’s exactly why I created B Calm.
Not to create another complicated routine or unrealistic wellness checklist, but to help women create simple calming rituals that support the nervous system naturally throughout the day.
Because calm isn’t something we find once.
It’s something we practise daily.
These are the rituals I personally return to every day to support:
- stress relief
- emotional wellbeing
- better sleep
- hormone balance
- glowing skin
- nervous system regulation
through realistic, achievable moments of self care.
Why I Created The B Calm Ritual Blends
I created the Breathe Calm, Live Calm and Rest Calm blends to support different emotional and physical moments throughout the day.
Not just beautiful aromas intentional rituals.
Each blend was designed around the connection between scent, breathing and the nervous system.
Research shows smell has one of the fastest and most direct pathways to the brain. Olfactory signals connect directly to the limbic system — including the amygdala and hippocampus, areas responsible for emotion, memory and stress processing.
Human neuroscience research has shown that nasal breathing and aroma inhalation can influence emotional regulation, cognitive function and stress response within moments of inhalation.
Modern life keeps many of us stuck in “fight or flight” mode:
- work stress
- parenting pressure
- social media overwhelm
- poor sleep
- hormonal changes
- mental load
Over time, chronic stress can affect:
- mood
- skin
- digestion
- hormones
- energy
- sleep quality
- migraines
- emotional resilience
My blends were created to encourage small moments of “rest and digest” throughout the day through scent, breath and ritual.
My Morning Ritual | Breathe Calm, Gua Sha & Nervous System Support
My ritual begins before I check my phone.
I start slowly and intentionally because I’ve learned that how I begin the morning often shapes how I feel for the rest of the day.
I begin with my Breathe Calm blend and skincare ritual to gently wake up my nervous system instead of shocking it awake with stress.
Rose Mist & Facial Oil Ritual
I begin by misting my face with rose water before applying my facial oil blend.
I rotate my carrier oils seasonally:
- sesame oil during winter for deeper nourishment and protection
- sweet almond oil during spring and warmer months for lighter hydration
I also massage oil into my feet to help ground and reconnect with my body first thing in the morning.
This small ritual feels calming, nourishing and supportive for both my skin and nervous system.
Facial massage and mindful skincare can also help release tension held in the jaw, temples and facial muscles — areas many of us unconsciously tighten during stress.
Rose Quartz Gua Sha Ritual
After applying my face oil, I spend a few mindful minutes using my rose quartz gua sha.
This has become one of my favourite morning rituals because it encourages me to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with myself before the busyness of the day begins.
Using gentle upward and outward strokes, I glide the gua sha across the skin to help:
- release facial tension
- encourage circulation
- reduce puffiness
- support lymphatic drainage
- soften jaw tension linked to stress
I especially focus on:
- jaw
- temples
- neck
- forehead
where many of us store emotional tension.
The facial oil allows the gua sha to glide smoothly across the skin while deeply nourishing the skin barrier at the same time.
Rose quartz is traditionally associated with calm, self-love and emotional healing, making it a beautiful addition to a mindful morning ritual.
Diffuser & Meditation Ritual
While getting ready, I switch on my diffuser with Breathe Calm blend for 30 minutes while I meditate, stretch or journal.
The blend contains:
- Lavender
- Sweet Orange
- Frankincense
These oils were intentionally chosen for their calming and grounding properties.
Research suggests lavender may help reduce cortisol and support relaxation, while citrus oils like sweet orange may help uplift mood and ease feelings of anxiety.
Frankincense is traditionally used to support grounding, mindfulness and emotional balance.
How Breathing Can Affect How We Feel
Breathing doesn’t just keep us alive it can influence how we think and feel too.
The amygdala, part of the limbic system involved in emotional processing and fight-or-flight response, is closely linked to breathing patterns.
Many of us unknowingly breathe shallowly during stress, keeping the body in a heightened state of alertness.
Slow diaphragmatic breathing paired with calming aromas can help support a calmer nervous system state.
One technique I personally love is box breathing:
- inhale for 4
- hold for 4
- exhale for 4
- hold for 4
Repeating this while inhaling essential oils can create a grounding reset within minutes.
Research by Zelano et al. (2016) found nasal breathing directly influences electrical activity within emotional and memory-processing areas of the brain, including the amygdala and hippocampus.
My Daytime Ritual | Live Calm For Energy, Focus & Busy Days
Life gets busy quickly, so I created Live Calm to come with me throughout the day.
I always keep:
- my roller ball blend
- inhaler
- keyring diffuser
with me when I’m out and about.
The Live Calm blend contains:
- Eucalyptus
- Lemon
- Peppermint
It was designed to support:
- focus
- clarity
- mental fatigue
- daytime energy
- emotional overwhelm
especially during busy workdays, school runs and hormonal exhaustion.
Peppermint and eucalyptus are commonly used in aromatherapy to support alertness and clearer breathing, while lemon creates an uplifting atmosphere.
When I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I pause for a few slow breaths using my keyring diffuser instead of immediately pushing through stress.
These tiny nervous system resets matter more than we realise.
Movement, Yoga & Journaling For Stress Relief
Movement has also become a huge part of my wellbeing journey.
I teach yoga-inspired movement through @beckys_body_balance, combining yoga, tai chi and pilates with breathwork and mindful movement.
Exercise supports:
- endorphin release
- stress management
- mobility
- emotional wellbeing
- nervous system regulation
I also love journaling with my diffuser on for 30 minutes.
This creates space to reflect, slow down and process thoughts before stress builds up.
Some journal prompts I return to regularly:
- This week I want to feel…
- My intention for this week is…
- Where do I need more space this week?
- How can I care for myself today?
My Evening Ritual | Rest Calm For Sleep, Hormones & Relaxation
Evening is where I intentionally tell my body:
you are safe to slow down now.
I switch on my diffuser with Rest Calm for 30 minutes while I read before bed.
This has become one of my strongest sleep signals and helps create consistency for my nervous system.
The blend contains:
- Lavender
- Geranium
- Frankincense
Geranium is often used in aromatherapy rituals supporting emotional balance and hormonal wellbeing, while lavender encourages relaxation and sleep readiness.
My Evening Bath Ritual
One of my favourite evening rituals is a Rest Calm bath with:
- Epsom salts
- carrier oil
- essential oils
I combine:
- 6 drops essential oil blend
- 1 tablespoon carrier oil
before adding to the bath.
This helps nourish the skin while creating a calming sensory experience before sleep.
Magnesium-rich Epsom salt baths are also commonly used to support relaxation and muscle recovery.
I try to avoid screens at least an hour before bed and keep consistent sleep and meal times where possible.
Children thrive on routines — and honestly, our nervous systems do too.
My Evening Massage Ritual
After my bath, I take a few extra minutes to massage my body using a nourishing body oil blend.
Using slow circular motions and gentle touch helps relax muscles while signalling safety and calm to the nervous system.
Massage can help:
- ease muscular tension
- support circulation
- calm the mind
- encourage body awareness
- prepare the body for rest
I focus especially on:
- shoulders
- neck
- chest
- legs
- feet
where stress tends to accumulate physically.
This ritual transforms an ordinary evening into a deeply restorative one.
Not perfection — simply intentional care.
My Evening Skin & Hair Ritual
Before bed, I remove my makeup using a nourishing carrier oil instead of harsh cleansers.
Oil cleansing helps dissolve makeup, SPF and impurities without stripping the skin barrier, which is especially important during periods of stress or skin sensitivity.
After cleansing, I apply my lavender mist followed by my facial oil blend to deeply nourish my skin overnight.
On hair wash evenings, I also apply castor oil through my lashes, brows and hair as a conditioning treatment before shampooing thoroughly afterwards (combine with some jojoba oil if you find the texture of castor too thick)
I sometimes add a little Live Calm blend into my hair ritual as part of my self care practice.
Castor oil has traditionally been used to support the appearance of fuller-looking hair and lashes while nourishing dry scalp and hair ends.
For me, these rituals are never about perfection.
They are moments of slowing down, mindful touch and nervous system support.
Simple Ways To Use Essential Oils Throughout The Day
Pillow Ritual
Add a few drops to your pillow before sleep.
Shower Steam Ritual
Add 2–3 drops to the corner of your shower for aromatic steam inhalation.
Roller Ball Blend
Blend 10 drops essential oil with sweet almond oil in a roller bottle.
Facial Steam
Add 2 drops to steaming water, cover your head with a towel and inhale deeply.
Hand Or Foot Bath
Add 6 drops diluted in carrier oil to warm water.
Quick Calm Reset
Inhale deeply from your inhaler or keyring diffuser during stressful moments.
Wellness Is About Ritual, Not Perfection
One of the biggest lessons from my healing journey is this:
Wellness doesn’t need to feel overwhelming to be powerful.
Tiny repeated rituals can have a profound effect over time.
Sometimes calm looks like:
- 30 minutes with your diffuser
- a mindful bath
- gua sha and facial massage
- deep breathing
- journaling
- reading instead of scrolling
- applying face oil slowly
- pausing before reacting
These moments gently remind the nervous system:
you are safe.
That’s what B Calm was created for.
Simple rituals to support stress relief, emotional wellbeing, sleep, skin wellness and nervous system balance naturally.
