Happiness consists of getting enough sleep
Living with insomnia can be a challenge. The purpose of sleep is to rest and recover – and to allow the body to repair itself. Scientists now believe that poor sleep can have a direct effect on digestive health. Fortunately, effective treatments are available that can help us fall asleep faster, stay asleep, and feel more rested during the day. Personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes are available – based on science and designed for you.
Sleep Therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I or CBTI) is a short, structured, and evidence-based approach to combating the frustrating symptoms of insomnia.
One component of CBTI is behavioural interventions these are:
- Relaxation training for example meditation with use of breath work. Why not pop on a guided meditation (meditation mountain on Spotify is great) with diffusing our signature night scent and drift off to sleep with the night light (turns off automatically).
- Stimulus control: reclaiming the bedroom as a place for restful sleep, no TV!
- Sleep restriction: help to establish healthy sleep habits by calculating the total time spent asleep on a typical night using a sleep diary. Time in bed is then adjusted to reflect this amount, plus 30 minutes.
My favourite bed time routine to help support drifting off
- I don't look at screens past 8pm. I wind down with a healing bath with epsom salts - magnesium boost (recipe) or reading, yoga (body balance), a meditation (love sleep meditation for women on spotify), some self-care with essential oils (Frankincense for grounding) massage with body oil and diffusing our rest calm scent. Be in bed by 9pm, winding down ready to sleep before 10pm. If this is too early for you currently why not start by going to bed just 15 minutes earlier each night and see if this makes a differnece?
Stretching
- Stretching helps support relief from night time cramps in your muscles or restless legs. Please read support for this here (I also have a weighted blanket to help)
- Happy baby pose or pigeon is great to ground and release emotions from the day via your hips
- Legs up the wall - simple and effective to improve circulation and promote relaxation
